Happy Halloween! Or All Hallow's Eve.. or All Saints' Eve. Small history lesson, back in the day townsfolk didnt go around to get candy from other houses.. this is a Gaelic festival that celebrates summer's end (Celts had similar festivals). This celebration had to do with the festival of the dead, so they had a festival to visit their homes and pass on (I just quickly summed it up so its not accurate). How does this relate to Trick-or-treating? Well in the late medieval time period in It Ireland and Britain (originated here), poor folk would go to different houses on Hallowmas (November 1), to get food. They would prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2) as a return gift.
So here you have it.. Short history holiday lesson, remember this kiddies : )
