SAW 2008: Even though "Sleep is for the week. Pleasant dreams." has acatually elicited a laugh from some people, I'd rather forget this page existed. I freakin' hate the way I draw Sewerman from behind and I'm not sure I ever figured out how to do it well (much less knew how to do it at 14,) I think I just stopped doing it altogether eventually. The final panel is the biggest, most atrocious non-joke joke in the whole thing. The joke was a holdover from our animation, where we cribbed from the Australian "Headmasters" Transformers cartoon, and took the audio right from that. This transcription of that same monologue doesn't means nothing, is confusing, and isn't funny.

The Swift quote, for whatever reason, got in there because we were riffing on Watchmen, which includes quotes pertinent to each issue at the end. I don't know if it worked for us or not, but we stopped it eventually.

The first three issues of JITS were a major learning experience for Eric and I, where we made many errors and had to do a lot of maturing as writers. I'm not saying everything we did from issue 4-onward is perfect, but after this early rough patch we began to find our direction, style, and goal, which made it easier.
