1-21: Guess Who?

In the beginning, the idea was that something happened on every page. Then it became that every page had a cliffhanger of some kind. Now I've gotten to the point where I'm just happen to have a gag of some kind. Maybe that's a 3-act structure. Maybe I'm just all over the place. My name is Scott A. Williams and I can't be toned down.

Chapter one is… over! All told it lasted 21 strips which is nearly the number of pages in your average American comic. Coincidence? Training? Or awesomeness? You decide. In any case, it took less than a year to get this far. Considering I did nothing for months on end, I think I made up for it in the last two months. I'm starting a new job tomorrow (as I write this, not when it posts) so I'll have to get settled in, so I have no idea when I'll get back to this comic, but I'm still feeling the inspiration so I should be able to work on it over the summer.

Chapter two is going to continue the postmodern blending of genres and formats (strip, page, narration, dialogue, sci-fi, romance, absurdist, punchline, satire, etc.) The idea is that I don't want RG to get jammed into one classification box. It is simply whatever I feel like making it on the day of, for better or worse.

UNINTERESTING SIDENOTE: This strip was drawn on the same page as the previous.

SLIGHTLY MORE INTERESTING NOTE: "Guess Who?" is a game by Milton Bradley where opposing sides try to guess the other's identity by looking at a bunch of illustrated faces and asking for clues. Along with Battleship and Sorry, (both candidates for the reference in this strip) it was a favourite of mine as a kid and is a blast to play drunk. Go ahead.

This is likely the last we'll see of Ms. Spelling, with her being stuck on an alien planet and the action set to return to Earth. I'm kinda relieved; as you might guess from the inconsistency, I'm not big on drawing her. The sad thing is, in the course of writing her out, I came up with a good idea for how to bring her back, so I might force myself to use it somewhere down the line.

That's all for tonight. As you all know, I do this strip casually, to relax between projects for RN Comics, which I recommend you check out if you've gotten any pleasure from these 20 strips. Here I keep the art sketchy and fast; there I take my time (so it's still messy but more studied and colorful. I know I'm limited.)
