2-16: (???) to the rescue

A few things happened in this strip that are of note:

One: A black guy appears, although it may be difficult to tell because of the lack of colouring (I originally had him grayscale, but it looked awful.)

Two: I used an interesting panel layout.

Three: The center panel contains unusual depth of field for RG in that it contains any depth of field at all. I originally didn't even draw Reg in there (just like in the previous strip) but I realized it made sense for him to go in there.

The center panel is unusually interesting to me because I used it to flex my staging muscles. The black guy (Matt, although it hasn't been said yet,) and Rodriguez are face to face, but it's different from a lot of webcomics you see. This is because they're not in profile. Profile is an ugly angle and ought to be used sparingly if at all; even then preferably for close-ups. From staging plays and short films (which I've done only a few times as a student, but still,) I've found that you get similar, better results with a 3/4 turn. The human body from the neck down in profile just looks wrong. And you know something's wrong when I'M giving art lessons. Hah.

Of course, I pissed away this wonderful art karma in panel 6. Yeesh.

I like the resolution of this confrontation. I don't expect everyone will feel the same, but it makes sense to me. As to why he helped Reg, maybe we'll find out soon… cheers.
