A soul transfer, as you can guess, takes up a larger amount of mana than some simpler spells. For that reason, you get a longer sentence you need to chant while this longer magical working is going on whereas smaller spells are quicker and take spell words.

You also need a staff to contain the amount of mana needed for the spell. I mean, technically you can do the spell without a staff or wand, but it helps focus the mana…like a funnel. A magical funnel.
