Issue Six, page 3: Homecoming

Speaking of Homecomings, at the end of this week I will be flying our to my old home state of Iowa (yep, I'm a corn fed Iowa boy) to go to my childhood home along with my sibs and their families–to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary–if you can believe that! I haven't been to the old home place for eighteen years… since my home has been here on the east coast for so long. My wife, daughter and I have been very nervous about this trip. I love my parents, and do not wish to see them hurt in any way, but frankly, they spring from the buckle of the Bible Belt, and their christian faith is extreme… My little family has taken a very different path–choosing to become Pagans and follow Gaian Wiccan belief. In times past I simply avoided religious discussion to avoid causing my parents distress, but my parents lives revolve around their fundamental Baptist church. Going into church doesn't bother me at all, I can worship my Goddess anywhere, but christian rites require the annunciation of Creeds and Oaths which neither I nor my family can do in any good conscience. I guess you just can't go home again, eh?
