#101 - Truth & Consequnces

I feel bad for Chief Simmons. I mean, traditionally, the police Chief in a Monster town is kind of dim witted. Well meaning, a little rough, but ineffective. When I started "The Mermaids" I was determined to treat the Police a bit more realistically.

We first introduced the Chief way back in episode #17. Over the course of our two day adventure, he spent the first day with no idea what was happening, and the second day he was mostly a captive of the mermaids in their deep caves. He was rescued (almost) around #61 and again around #83.

I feel bad about all this. Despite the fact that the Chief is smart, reasonable, and capable, I have totally made him seem useless. His best scenes (like one where Futurella introduces herself, or the time he was captured, or his taking control of the crowd at the end) were all cut from the story, they all happen off camera.

And worse, I don't even draw him all that consistently. Sometimes he kind of looks like John Amos, sometimes he looks more like Geoffrey Holder.

For all of you Chief Simmons fans, I apologize. The next time monsters attack Trident beach, I will try to portray the Chief in a better light.

I'm still hoping for John Amos when we do the movie version. Hollywood, don't forget to call!

Today, we get a peek into Jace's thoughts and motivations.
