Mud Puddles

First off, I have to say, many people get this wrong. Terribly wrong. Evolution says nothing nor insinuates anything about how life originally formed. Anyone who takes it upon themselves to equate the theory of evolution, which explains life changing over time after it had already formed, with abiogenesis, which deals with how life can form from inorganic materials, is setting up a straw man argument, a logical fallacy meant to lend more credence to their own words.

I've actually heard this argument several times, all from loud preachy-types that sit on street corners or hang in groups in front of the student Union here on campus and wave their signs full of "stop sinning" in our faces. The creationists I've run across as well try to put down evolution by equating it either with the scenario described above, or saying we started from pond scum. I'm actually not surprised that AiG, Answers in Genesis, doesn't say we came from mud; I'm sure they saw the connection between the second chapter of Genesis and this statement.

Either way, this is merely a simple comparison between the common argument against evolution, brought on by ignorance of what the theory actually entails, and the creation myth as detailed in the book of Genesis.

Just a hint of irony.

Cheers.
