That's the number of dollars spent to make sure that gays would be unable to marry in Maine, donated by the Roman Catholic church in defense of the "sanctity of marriage".

It raises the question, in my mind, every time I come across shit like this: why the fuck do they care? Oh, it goes against their religion. Well, divorce also goes against their religion (Malachi 2:16: “I hate divorce, says the LORD God of Israel.â€). You would think they would clean up their own before they go after others, especially since Xians, especially fundies, have some of the highest divorce rates of any belief in the US. Funny, the very people that don't want others to marry can't stand the thought of being married.
I would also question why anyone would take seriously an organization that has allowed, for years, the molestation of the youth, sometimes right under their noses, all the while holding the banners of religion and authority.
The "sanctity" of marriage is in trouble, and instead of helping themselves, they go after another social group that has nothing to do with their own internal problems. And the awesome irony of all the conservative, pro-family lawmakers dicking aroundoutside their marriages certainly casts doubt on the allegations that Xians are the best example of marriage we can drag into the spotlight.
Religion has always been a shaky thing to base decisions on: the Bible advocates slavery, selling your children into slavery, killing your children if they disobey, and that absolute obedience to the totalitarian in the sky is preferred over rational, reasoned thinking–think about Abraham sacrificing his son to Yahweh without a second thought, that's pretty reasonable right?
And these are the people that would have us deny civil privileges to others, because they disagree with their "lifestyle". Because they feel their right to marry "one man, one woman" is threatened, when they themselves fail miserably at policing their own moral institutions.
The sanctity of marriage is a lie, a slogan used to deny others rights. It means nothing, and yet is waved around like a sledgehammer as though it has any weight, and when you stop to think about it, the final impact on your psyche is as light as a feather: marriage is merely a big ceremony where two people tell each other, in front of other people, they want to live together. There is nothing special about it at all, unless you think a magical sky daddy actually blesses such gatherings, in which case I would stop trying to communicate with words and would attempt to reach you through gesticulations alone.
Maine, dear Maine, you are full of fucking idiots, that take the advice of child molesters and bigots who get stiff at thinking that their "institution of marriage" is under fire from people that just want to admit, publicly, that they have strong feelings for each other. It's an extension of their martyr complex; they're just so downtrodden by today's secular society.
And they have the balls to cry that it's all "for the children".
You know what would be better for children? Parents that don't have high divorce rates.
