Not too long ago, one of my mother's sisters sent me a chain email with a pretty hefty message inside. The short end of it, the email listed a bunch of government programs that had supposedly gone bankrupt, and used that as a reason why we shouldn't let the government handle national health care of any sort.

I did a small amount of research, and the only two points that really supported the claims on the list were the bankruptcies of Freddie Mac and Fannie May, and the overall questionable failure of the "war on poverty". Other than that, the list comprised social programs that have always been money sinks. I mean, it's rather hard to gain a profit on social security, to give an example.

So, this is my second round of rebuttal.
