Atheism, For Dummies

Atheism, For Dummies

I did a quick search through the "For Dummies" books to make sure this isn't a real title, if only to cover my tracks.

This is precisely what atheism is; I shouldn't even need to redefine it: a lack of belief in god(s). It's just a position on belief, nothing more. There is no dogma or doctrines, no head honcho, no Pope, no ethical system, nothing. Anything that a person chooses to think after making this distinction in their life is their business, and does not follow from them being an atheist–except that they won't likely take "divinely inspired" words all that seriously.

On the same subject, a theist is a person that believes in (a) god(s), the opposite of an atheist, but this again does not mean that theism, by itself, is an ethical system. It is just a belief concerning the existence of gods. Now, what those gods decree, as interpreted through their human sycophants, is another story.

I don't feel like getting into any more today. Bugger off.
