I've said before that Starflower was meant to be a nod to all the teen and pre-teen sidekicks that once seemed attached to the hip of every costumed crime-fighter worth his salt. I don't think that's clearer anywhere than in the last panel on this page.

I explained to Nickel that, in that panel, I envisaged her wearing a cheeky, even gleeful expression such as the Silver/Golden Age Robin would wear after he'd taken out a whole gang of street thugs using nothing more than his trusty catapault. I think he nailed it!
