I've said many times that part of the rationale for making Stan a tailor was so that Shades could have lots of discussions about the conventions governing super hero costumes. I've also said that, during the many rewrites of the script, most of those discussions ended up on the cutting room floor!

Jill's line about masks in the final panel here was one that was cut several times. Since DC and Marvel seem to have conveniently forgotten the real reason why their heroes wear masks, however, I kept trying to reinsert it wherever I could. By the time I came to letter this page, the line was out (supposedly for good!) and so I got quite excited when I realised I could shoe-horn it into this exchange at the eleventh hour. Especially since it actually seems to fit better here than anywhere else I'd tried it!
