By "sidetracked" he means chased, nearly thrown off a building, stuck in the infirmary, drunk, passed out in a friend's room, and then dragged to a very weird disciplinary meeting.

It may seem a little weird that Ten had to smuggle something like this in, but if you remember waaaay back to page 39, video games are contraband on this ship. They're very serious about people concentrating on their studies around here.
