I really like the Action Girl Character over the Lady in Distress one, and I know that many works of fiction (specially on mainstream media) seem very fond to what The Nostalgia Critic described as the Dumbass in Distress Syndrome. In you don't know what the DDS is, is a sickness that turns your independent and totally capable female character into a useless and helpless dork that needs to be rescued by the male protagonist, by removing everything that made her badass in the first place.

I know that every once in a while a brave male hero needs a fragile female counterpart to rescue, is what made Superman cool in the first place (that and flight, superstrenght and heat vision), and even a strong female character could eventually found herself in a situation that she couldn't handle by her own, but just turn a character into something that she isn't is kinda lame…
