As a natural-born East Coast-er, I never fully wrapped my head around some of the modes of thinking here on the Pacific side. In about 2 weeks, it'll be my 17th anniversary of having moved here, and there's some things about the folks 'round here that I STILL don't get.
Bellingham was a great town, but, on its negative side, seemed to be infested with self-entitled, very opinionated suburbanite college students, spoiled hippies, oblivious hipsters and wannabe Debate Team Captains. I look back on the time that I made this strip and laugh, due to how much worse it has gotten since. I spend most of my time in coffeeshops while attempting to make comics these days, and, if I make the all-but-fatal mistake of forgetting my earphones, then, I am driven mad by the utter BULLSHIT that I hear coming out of some people's mouths People, I might add, who have NO volume control or consideration for their fellow coffee-drinkers! They are convinced, not only that they are spouting the wisdom of the ages via their regurgitated opinions gleaned from FaceBook & Twitter, but that EVERYBODY must hear how they are 'saving the world' with their words!
Recently, I dug out my old DVDs and rewatched Patton oswalt's "No Reason to Complain" and felt sorry for him in his views that George Dubya was the worst President there could ever be… I laughed that "Oh, you poor naive boy" laugh. That's how I feel about myself back in those days. The hippie throwbacks and armchair sociopolitical pundits of yesteryear were FUCKING PROPHETS compared to the drivel that the modern day hipster-larva and collegiate pseudointellectuals of today vomit up whenever their strings get pulled!
