Yay! Emo Meter!

I have nothing personal against the 'Emo' genus of the human race, other than the impression that they want to impose their apparent 'misery' upon the rest of us and bring a little bit more gloom into a world which, to be honest, has enough unhappiness in it already without loads of angsty teenagers making out that their lives are terrible. You want terrible? Go live in Africa. Get HIV/AIDS. Walk for hours just to collect water which is dirty and unhealthy to drink anyway. Above all, get some perspective.

I have all the sympathy in the world for people whose lives really have hit rock bottom (relatively speaking) but if you have access to shelter, food and water, unlike the hundreds of homeless people in the Western World alone, then there must be something positive in your life. The fact that most 'emos' can buy the new emo-fashion clothes and make-up points out that they have a good deal more that some people (see 'The Pursuit of Happyness' staring Will Smith for a truly down-and-out way of life).

I'd be the first person to say that money can't buy happiness, so I will accept that some people think there's something missing in their lives and that they lack meaning - for me, it was God and I'm far happier for realising that. But seriously, cutting one's wrists to 'feel alive' is hypocritical and wandering around moping is not going to help you. Get a hobby, find a girl/boy friend, travel and see the world. Get off your arses and FIND the meaning of your life, FIND your raison d'etre.

In the end, it's a petty cry for attention.

Okay, so the rant got away from me a bit there, and so that you know, I'm not really prejudice - I just see it as 'teenagerism gone mad'. I'm 19. I dont feel the need to express my annoyance with the world through public displays of my wrist-scars. (That was a hyperbole - I've never actually seen or heard of that happening.)

So yeah, that rant is completely unplanned and uncensored. Take the bits you dont like with a pinch of salt. There's so much to live for in this world, why waste your time pretending that there isn't?!?!?!?!
