Chapter 3 page 2
j giar onOkay….this may be the most fun and aggravation I've ever had doing a page. When I first did the layout I kept thinking more glass. Yeah…more glass….and still more glass. As I inked this page I found myself saying, less glass..less glass. But it was a fun page to do. I opted to keep this page silent. No sound effects. For two reasons. One was to contrast with the previous page, which I loaded with sound effects. It just seemed to give it more impact. (no pun intended.) Secondly, we've all seen the proverbial large explosion panel/ splash in a comic. With this page I wanted the reader to fill in their own sound effect. How would a 190 pound, seemingly indestructible man and a small kitty sound coming through a large paneled window? I think you guys would come up with a far better sound effect in your mind than I could ever put on paper.
On another note. I'm taking a much more lacks approach to this series of pages. The upcoming chapter is going to have some difficult page and panel designs and it should be…..interesting.
As I've read and re-read the past pages, I've come to the conclusion that some panels are not up to their potential. Or at least what I know I'm capable of doing. To be honest some of them look like I half assed it. Not that I wasn't putting my best into it. It's just time or frustration took their toll and I posted in order to maintain the momentum I was building. As a creator or artist you find yourself getting caught up in this machine and at times you lose control of it. In this case their are at least 10 to 15 panels that I just cringe at every time I read them. That being said I will replace those panels and fix some of the dialogue prior to SoulDriver going into print form. I'll call that my Directors Cut. Hey, if Ridley Scott can do it…so can we.
In the upcoming pages we will be introduced to a whole slew (spelling?) of new characters and the return of some old ones. Just keep in mind the rules in SoulDriver…nothing is what it seems….and always carry a spare clip. See ya next week. Jim
