SUCH UNGENTLEMANLY CONDUCT
Yes, those were actual things (paraphrased of course) that were said when during a meeting the representative(s) for New South Wales and Victoria suddenly (hilariously, I imagine) started fighting. Some of the quotes are slightly tweaked while keeping the original meaning intact, but 'the difference between new south wales and victoria is like the difference between heaven and earth' is pretty much ad verbatim. I don't know exactly how this was said, but I like to imagine it was yelled ridiculously. The mental image becomes much more hilarious when you remember that the representatives would have been serious looking old guys and not, in fact, 7 year olds in a school playground. (or personifications of cities, for that matter)
I was cracking up a lot in the library while reading the book I got these gems from, but I didnt record the name of the book, so if I manage to go to the library when I go back to Australia for christmas break I'll see if I can find it again. But why don't they teach this kind of thing in class? All we ever learned was that Victoria and NSW 'had disagreements', I never knew it involved an argument quite as…special as this until reading that history book.
Anyway this page took forever because I'm really bad at poses and stuff, and I'm still not completely happy with the anatomy but overall I think it turned out alright. It was -a lot- of fun to draw and was actually the page I was looking forward to the most in this arc.
