Very little is known about the Boss, which suits him. He may possibly be the Omnipotent God of several faiths, but he mostly just seems content to have this strange "business" continuing to run. He has mentioned others in passing who also make decisions for the "Company", which further adds to the confusion when many of the souls they deal with assume him to be God. He has a few problems with Steve, mostly due to Steve being incredibly irrational and a creature of impulse, and at the same time being good enough at his job to avoid serious punishment.
The Boss appears to be humanoid, but he may be capable of altering his appearance as he wishes.
