286-290 : Kuzemaru

"Kuzemaru" was probably a far more imaginative-sounding name a couple years ago when I first came up with it. That was before Naruto had worked its way over here from Japan, and the name "Orochimaru" wasn't nearly as well known.

The only relatively 'mainstream' "marus" at that point were from SNK games - Benimaru and the why-do-you-exist-but-probably-as-a-Naruto-wannabe-now-that-I-think-about-it "Hokutomaru" from Garou: Mark of The Wolves.

'Kuze' was a slight tweaking of the turm 'Kuzu,' which is often used to refer to someone as scum or trash. 'Kuzumaru' didn't roll off the tongue as well, so I added the E. Therefore, yes, I guess his name could loosely translate to "Trash Ninja." There goes his ominous factor. :)

And after I saw a Kazemaru on Yu Yu Hakusho the other day (Kaze = wind, and yes he was another ninja), I knew his name would never go down in the history books as being all that inventive.


Regardless, "Kuzemaru" is still fun to say. Or maybe I'm just crazy. :)
