Drill - The thing you learn as in where you are, what you're doing etc, during a particular time in the music. So when someone says they forgot their drill, they have no clue what they're doing on the field. And usually, if someone messes up, everyone else has to find a way to make it look like they didn't. AKA - copy whatever that idiot's doing or the person next to them don't play and tell them what to do.
Cadence - I was gonna put this in but decided not to. It's the drum "solo" that we march to. We go into the field on this, do parades with this, march out, etc. The drumline has several of these cadences.
Marching - What marching band does. Durh. lol. You're not supposed to walk. There's two marching techniques that I know of: Glide Step and High Heeled. The one my school does is Glide Step. That's when you roll your heel, never letting your toe hit the ground, unless you backwards march. Then you never let your heel hit the ground and march on tip toes. The schools I see that does High Heeled is FAMU and HBCUs and the high schools in Dekalb County (the county Atlanta is in). This is where they bring their knees to their waist as they march. And they land on their toes, not heels.
Marching to Halftime: Around three minutes before haltime, both bands go down to their respective sides and tune amongst themselves. For us, usually each section goes into their little circles. They tune, make sure their pitch is right, and they play a small tidbit of the show music. Then they pray or whatever. When they're in their circles, they take off their hats. When they're done, we start walking to where we will march in. The game's still going on, so we get as close as we can. The visitor always performs haltime first, then the home team performs. Each performances is usually no longer than 10 minutes. As they're marchign in, they march to the universal cadence: drum taps. Then we get into parade rest, the Drum Major calls us to attention, and we play. I ssaw some bands that don't go into parade rest, but straight to attention.
