Originally, Dimitrij was Sebastian Cradle's forename. Jacob pointed out, in passing, that this was a very foreign sounding name. I had initially chosen Dimitrij because it sounded sophisticated, but it occurred to me now that another important part of Sebastian's character was his patriotic Englishness. Plus, it seemed that all my villains were Continental Europeans, so the name Dimitrij was relegated to Mr Sokolov.
