Unfortunately, at the time I wrote this, which was before this date, I didn't know that someone would actually die in a BASE jumping accident at the event that year (a man from California). It was the first BASE jumping death during Bridge Day since 1987.

The jumper's parachute failed to open until he was 25 feet above the water, and he died from the impact. There have been three fatalities at the event (which started in 1980), one by drowning, but minor injuries every year.

Bungee jumping was done at the Bridge Day event for only two years but banned after the number of injuries the second year.
