I don't know why, but the idea of Sunjax having a pet rat with a horribly butchered Spanish name just plain amuses me.

I think it's an unwritten rule that if your protagonist really isn't a looker, then they must have a beautiful or adorable sidekick. I can't imagine any beautiful, half-naked women wanting to work with/live with a liquidy sewer mutant, so a rat just made more sense.
