Coroners really do have morbid senses of humor. Morticians collecting and transporting bodies are really creepy. It's one thing to see someone die or find a body but then being the person who has to clean everything up and write a report is something else.
You HAVE to develop a gallows sense of humor in that line of work, just to keep sane. I have a few friends in the health care and funerary professions and they have definitely corrupted my sense of humor.
Ever see a skull split open from impact on a tile floor? It can literally explode. The unfortunate had a massive stroke while walking in the hallway fell back on the floor with his head taking the impact and all caught on security camera. Head wounds bleed a lot. All over and following a blood trail to find a the confused terrified person who was scratching at his neighbor's door? Some of us have lived this.
Had one in front of me as I was leaving a late night takeaways many years back. Guy stepped out on the pedestrian crossing and got hit by a drunk driver. Knocked him back and he landed with his head on the edge of the curb. Lifted most of the top of his skull off. I did the best I could to hold everything together and he was still alive when the ambulance arrived but ultimately died about 2 hours after they got him to the hospital. Not the worst experience I've had but well up there.
That happened to the grandfather of one of my friends. Fortunately there was carpeting that absorbed some of the impact. It wouldn't have been pretty otherwise.
