Cursive is based on a pre-existing character from a different world I created (Alison's Education, which I haven't gotten 'round to really hammering out yet) and she's a lesbian in it too.

Supers have a higher percentage of left-handers, artists, gay & bisexuals in their community compared to the civilian populace, but when Cursive first arrived on the scene, it was as dark, 90's-style hero "The DeathTaker" who was openly gay. She was very controversial at the time (she still is, but has a lot less press as a Temp and prefers it that way) because the general public accused her of trying to convert women to a lesbian lifestyle.

It didn't help that Strife created her persona for her (she was young and inexperienced at the time and they took advantage of that), and then decided that they WOULD make her 'convert' women into lesbians. (This basically involved a lot of fake lesbian kisses)

Voltage never took her persona seriously (which annoyed her but she appreciated later) and Iron opposed it outright. Over time, Cursive and Iron teamed up against the administration in a way that made them (the Strife admin) a laughing stock – and Cursive was finally released from her contract. She's been working using super temping agencies like Super Temps ever since and much happier – but she and Iron remain friends to this day.
