The Digital Comic Museum just got a sharply scanned copy of what I think might be American illustrator Charles Dana Gibson's first independent illustration album: the 1894 Drawings by C.D. Gibson.

Taking the form of single-panel comics illustrating the tribulations and foibles of the American upper middle class of the day, the humor is often awkwardly dated, but the illustration is exquisite. "Too Late?" is one of my favorites; this was a handful of years before his tightly corseted "Gibson Girl" look (in 1894, Gibson was about 27).
