The plumber showed up today! And couldn't fix the problem. Might need the whole, weirdly hand-tiled shower ("whoever tiled this over was an idiot" — the plumber) knocked out and replaced. Meanwhile maybe I can turn the hot water on/off with a pipe wrench? I only have a regular wrench though. Maybe I can get the building managers to loan me one. ; )
