The sorceress performs a service. Before there was the Jedi mind trick there was the D&D spell "suggestion" where a mage would suggest a course of action and the be-spelled would follow it. It's good for getting past guards and the like. A sorceress can usually manipulate the unsuspecting with ease even using illusions. However, sorceresses live under a very firm code of ethics. And if they slip the punishments can be severe. And it is very strictly enforced. A sorceress lives to serve not to rule. Her talent comes with great responsibility.

But to some they are just whores. Or so the story goes.
