Scene 3, page 1. In the first draft of the script the camp followers weren't named. They originally had two scenes but one was scrapped. Then when Go a Viking! was rebooted the second time I wrote a new second scene for them and they finally got names. Arnora and Loffya.

All armies going back to beginning of history have had camp followers. Many were soldiers' wives, some were even serial brides marrying different soldiers after the death of the previous spouse. Others were hangers-on, cooks, laundresses, or even peddlers (sutlers) And if they robbed the battlefield dead it was often to re-sell to the survivors. Though Loffya is simply looking for shoes.

Crucible steel is high carbon steel that is forged at higher temperatures. The process though once thought to have been invented in the 18th century was used in the pre-modern world most notably in Damascus. But in a milieu without a city called Damascus that name wouldn't be appropriate.
