The devil is really in the details, at least for me. When creating the characters' appearances I prefer believability to fashion. But I have the limitations imposed on me by the wardrobe I have, but then pre-modern day-to-day wardrobe was limited. Arnora and Loffya are peasants. They wear simple blouses and skirts but no shoes. Maybe they wore them out, maybe they never had them. But as camp followers they have canteens, haversacks and something to keep the weather off their head during the marches. One of their jobs could be water carrier (think Molly Pitcher)
Notice that by the second panel Arnora has already stuck the sword in her belt.
It is supposed to be night but I hate media that do "realistic" darkness so you can't see anything. So we can just assume there's a full moon and some ambient light coming from off-screen fires or lanterns. Maybe a magic-user shot up some flares so the overnight guards can better see the "ghouls". I tried a blue filter but I didn't like the result. I forgot about shadows but maybe I'll add them to later pages to imply a deepening gloom.
