Once upon a time it was common for a betrothed couple to share the marriage bed as if they were already wed. Now I set up several couples in various stages of their respective relationships because this a story about people. It's a fantastic world, but it's about people. A lot of people because it's a broad canvas. They will all come together and interact. And characters will die. You're probably already figuring that the happiest couples will suffer disaster. It's always the betrothed couple where one winds up dead and the other scared and nursing a dark quest for vengeance. Or not. With magic and proper medical care even seeming death to a pre modern person could be overcome. Or not.
