Here's today's extra update. The title explains it already, but I'll explain it again.
Today it's been 90 years since Finland (Suomi in Finnish) became independent (December 6, 1917). It was during the First World War and Finland was among many other countries that became independent when old Russia went trough a civil war (and became Soviet Union after it). So Finland used to be a part of Russia and before it Finland was a part of Sweden (which explains why we have two official languages, Finnish and Swedish).
I'm not going to get any deeper into the history even thought I feel tempted to do so. I love history and I love to talk about it. I'm also patriotic and proud to be Finnish so I like to talk about Finland's history. However, I'll restrain myself and not get into it more.
In the picture we have Viator and Iulia who both volunteered to hold the blue-cross flag of Finland. They are dressed in national dresses of Rovaniemi, thought I did take a few liberties with the design and colors. So they aren't very accurate in the end. They are more like based on the national dresses of Rovaniemi (which is in Lapland). This picture is partly quilty for the filler you got on Monday ^^' However I wanted to get this up on the right day so I did it instead of the next page. But I still think I wouldn't have been able to make the next page even if I had tried. This art was quick to do and didn't take so much time, but I know the next page will take a lot more time.
How will I spend the independence day? I'll be working just like some others will as well even thought it's a holyday in Finland. We have this bazaar on every Independence day and First of May where I work and I'm selling stuff there. When I get home I'll put the tv on and watch on this ball that's kept in the president's castle (thought it doesn't look like a castle much, just a big building). The important figures of the state, church, army and etc are there and then also some other special quests. I won't be watching it all the time, but I will have my tv on. I will do this alone, but if I had some company we would be criticizing the different dresses the quests are wearing. The last thing that I'll do is put on candles (two of them) 6 a'clock in the evening. This way of celebrating the independency is the same almost in every home in Finland (or at least many).
Congratulations Finland and thank you to all those who made the 90 years of independency possible.
