This design’s been in my head for a decade -no joke. Never played with them too much since they’re more involved in the Taur Brazen prequel The Church, but they are a creature in the world and will show up in Taur Brazen much later as a minor character.

Moorland monsters pose no threat to people unless threatened first. Despite being generally docile, they tend to eat predatory animals that attack them first. They sometimes herd sheep and satyrs as they eat their predators and receive a “pack” in return. If nothing poses a threat for a long time, they will try to goad predators to start fighting them. If they scare them off without a fight, they will hunt “easy prey” such as small animals like rabbits and squirrels for energy.

Only starved Moorland monsters threat-display people to get them to attack to “morally justify” food. People who fall for their displays and fight back rarely survive.

They can also work in office environments, non-public facing of course, and tend to make great accountants and HR managers. If assimilated into human civilization, they tend to consume whatever people eat as they lose the energy or drive to hunt.

They match human intelligence, so it may be unethical to have one as a pet instead of as a friend or coworker.

They look “scary”, but in some cultures, are considered “good luck” for their loyalty, hard work ethic, “good morals and human-like values”, and ability to learn quickly.
