rickrudge onHello everyone. On this page, I’ve tried my luck inking using my new Koh-i-Noor RapidoSketch pen (0.5 mm). I normally use the Pilot Precise V7 or V5 Rolling Ball pens; and I still love using those pens, (they are great!) but I have thought about moving away from disposable pens and using pens that are refillable. I’m trying to cut down on the amount of plastics going into landfills and our oceans.
As a printer, I’ve had to use RapidoGraph pens with some very bad experiences. These pens require a lot of maintenance and monkeying around to keep working properly, so I’ve been slow to shell out the bucks for a RapidoSketch pen. I was pleasantly surprised with the results, even drawing on my cheap Artist’s Loft Drawing Pad paper that I buy from Michael's. This paper has a rougher texture which isn’t recommended for these kinds of technical pens. I’m curious how the thinner 0.25 mm pen will work on anything but smooth textured paper.
First off, the RapidoSketch pen is very similar to the RapidoGraph pen’s design. The nib is slightly shorter and it has a clear plastic air channel. You can actually draw with this at a slight angle where the RapidoGraph requires drawing at a straight 90° angle. These pens are still very expensive and you can buy a lot of disposable technical pens for the same price of one of these. Hopefully, these will last a lifetime.
