I posted this strip on my comics page at 11:59pm on Saturday. I more or less made my personal deadline seconds before the buzzer went off. It's a good feeling, although not as good as being better prepared.
I would've gotten it done sooner had I rushed, but I wanted to take the time necessary to get the job done right. For the most part I think I have.
My initial layout for this one was in the traditional three panel format I do most of the Capital of Helsinki strips in. But, well, I needed at least four panels to get the gag across just the way I pictured it in my head.
It was something of a chore to fit all the word balloons in the right place on a single tier strip, so I made this installment a full page number. This gave me the opportunity to expand the panel count from four to five. The captain's speech and his crew's reaction was originally slated to occupy the same panel. I think it works better seperated.
Seperating the panels also allowed me to sneak in that "Boston pirate" joke. This is a really obnoxious inside joke I have with a friend of mine. He is the only person who will find this hilarious. People who are familiar with South Boston may possibly find this vaguely funny. The rest of you won't fucking care.
I hope I made Captain Whiskers appropriately cute. Adorable kitties are not my forte.
The font for the title caption in this strip is called "Helsinki". I found it while poking about on 1001freefonts.com and decided I was obligated to use it at least once for this comic series.
