Remember kids, when the mermaid is wearing a bra made of sea shells that means that she's good. Topless mermaids are always evil.
There is one exception to that though. If her tail fin turns to human legs on the surface she may be non-evil. (This is known as the Splash clause)
Moving on…
You may recall that I promised that The Capital of Helsinki won't turn into a forum where I constantly ridicule 80's cartoons.
Well, um, I suppose this strip makes me a great big ol' hypocrite.
I wanted to make the character in this a generic mermaid. But, well, I couldn't help myself and I gave her a coloring scheme similar to Ariel from the Disney version of The Little Mermaid.
And, after that, I just decided to go all out and I used a Walt Disney font for this week's Capital of Helsinki logo.
I vividly recall a John Byrne issue of Wonder Woman where Poseidon drowned some poor sap. Byrne drew him with this stream of bubbles erupting from his terrified mouth. I always thought this was an unsettling image and I shamelssly pilfered it for the little girl in panel three. (The pigtails are all me though)
This is probably one of the oldest ideas I've had for a Capital of Helsinki strip. I wrote the premise down ages ago and then forgot about it. I recently discovered it while going through my notes and decided that it would make a good selection for this week.
