This strip arose out of my contemplations regarding what Abraham Lincoln's last thoughts were prior to his assasination. A rather harsh criticism of the play he was watching at Ford's Theater was my hypothesis.
In case you don't know, the play Lincoln was watching was called "Our American Cousin". It's a comedy about a simple, salt-of-the-earth type who travels to England in order to meet his aristocratic relatives and claim his share of the estate.
The character I depict in the first two panels is Lord Dundreary, a dimwitted blueblood who is one of the signature characters of the play.
I looked at a few pictures of Ford's Theater in order to get the vibe of the place down. I did, however, take quite a few liberties with it. Besides, the place was transformed into an office building before it was renovated to become a historic landmark. So, the Ford's Theater that stands today isn't the one that Lincoln died in anyways.
It's also inaccurate to portray Lincoln wearing a hat indoors. Still, I think it adds to the impact of the last panel.
