So lets recap what we just learned:
In this story there exists an alternative version of earth, where all manner of fantasy life supposedly lives. Creed (Jinx and Boon's father!) was purpotedly trying to get to this place, but was cockblocked by "time", which forms a barrier around our earth and keeps things from crossing over.
The closest he got was the pocket dimension that he could access through his journal, where he instead stored Jinx and all of the others.

The Pocket dimensions are created by the people who are within them, so the "book world" was probably very hellish, thanks to the massive amount of depraved Lessers that were trapped in there with Jinx and the others. The passage of time is also non-existent in the book, thus why no one has aged. (Meaning, they can tell they've been in there a long time, but it's not affecting them physically.)
