Holy crap mlai, thank you so much for stopping by and giving such great tips!
(1) Your figures are sometimes too rubbery. Lack of bones and joints beneath the flesh. This applies to everywhere. Skull… shoulders… fingers… You have to envision solidity in the figures you draw.
Yep, this is an issue that I have fought for some time. Mostly do to the speed at which I draw, sometimes I like the way that makes things look. Usually not though =P I stopped drawing the "skeletal" lines and just started going straight to the rendering of circles, squares, etc to save time.
(2) You have stray lines on your figures, both clothed figures and naked ones. If you're drawing a line on a figure, you have to be absolutely sure it belongs there. Otherwise it's better not to have it. When drawing clothing folds, always envision lines of tension/stress from the body's posture/motion which is causing the fold.
Folds always gave me trouble. I know where the folds should be the most extreme, but after that I tend to just put random folds. I didn't realize I had put random lines in the "nude" version however. I put a lot of useless lines in the faces but I like those. I'll attempt to stop having the random lines if I am unsure. You may have to point out random lines in the nude version cause I really thought every line on those was necessary to convey the certain depths.
(3)Explore the figure-drawing style where the limbs are more prominent than the torso. Right now, your limbs are too skinny while the torso is too voluptuous. There is a reason why in Disney movies (Aladdin, let's say), a character's hands are larger than in real life. It's dynamic. It's expressive. It looks good. Take a look at this picture: http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/6710/projectjusticecharszp2.jpg You don't have to do it to that degree, but I show you the most extreme (yet proportional) "large extremities" style so you can see what I mean. IMO, when too much attention is put on the curviness of the torso and not enough attention is paid to the extremities, it's telling me that the artist is thinking too much about the T&A but not enough about the dynamics and emotional expressiveness of the character.
I'll try to fix that. Is it mainly a problem with Fenny? Or even the aliens (well that is acceptable) and Sally? The main reference I use to help proportion Fenny is J Scott Campbell's work. I kinda mixed it with mine, or attempted too. I'll give it a try to exagerate the limbs a bit more and see how my response and other's responses are. Another reason I may seem to focus on the torso is because it kept giving me so many problems. I have been trying harder on it to improve it. For too long the torso in my art looked more like an afterthought so I have been trying to emphasize it better. Seems I accomplished that and need to move on.
I really appreciate the feedback. I will try my best to improve in all areas but the 1st one may be toughest for me since it would add so much time to drawing. I will keep the "no-rubbery" look in mind while I draw but I am a bit more interested in getting pages out quicker. Otherwise I would definitely spend the proper time to render.
Since it is just me working on this project, I have to let things slide or the story would never progress. I hope you can tell I am trying to incorporate what you said in the upcoming pages, page by page I should get better at applying your feedback yet not slowing down too much.
Again, thank you for your feedback, now I have some specific things to look at fixing as I draw. This page today was made before I got your feedback.
oneminutecomics: Yeah that 2nd panel had 5 or so retries before it came out well enough :x
J A F O: I try to not keep everything "too" same old same old. Lets see how well I can do these funky angles and work on my structure better like mlai suggested… egads I see so much more erasing!
kyupol: Here's to hoping it can continue to thicken properly ^_^
Meechi: Ah, yes yes. I actually thought that myself. I shouldn't have put that line on her finger as well that made it look like she was pressing on something. In my head I wanted to give the point of her finger a roundish look. I simply just totally failed that picture so you were correct. As for the highlights on her face, I try to put them in areas that protrude like her cheeks, and the nose, and that spot kinda between her eyes and the forehead. Maybe I shouldn't put them on that last spot. Like you I am new to coloring and still learning. You've picked up on it so much faster than I have.
Dark Clown: Cool, it's so awesome to have people starting to wonder about her ability! ^_^ You get to wonder a bit longer now though. Seems the aliens couldn't detect what her power was.
