This is condensed from what actually happened. I was one of the players. And in reality, when the player anounced that their character was going to reach into the basket, the rest of us tried to persuade them to wait until they could actually look. But no, had to grab. Afterward, the attempts to backpedal on the basis of "logic" took over 10 minutes and only ended when the gm started packing. Now the gm had travelled almost 50 miles to get to the game, so bailing would have meant a great deal. I really admird the gm for being willing to leave. But we made the problem player leave instead.
