The slide stop and catching the door knob with his cane is pure Chaplin (with a little Mario barrel jumping for good measure.)

Also seen here, I set up the running gag of Charlie being mistaken as Jewish, which was true. The notorious anti-Semitic propaganda book,The Jews are Watching You, listed Jewish figures throughout the world, and called Charlie a "disgusting jewish acrobat."

Chaplin himself was not Jewish, but he didn't feel the need to correct the Nazis. Instead he wrote and directed The Great Dictator as an act of defiance.
