Necromancy, the power over life and death, is the hardest school of magic to master. Nothing is quite as devasting to a wizard than a miscast necromancy spell, nor is any other school of magic treated with such suspicion and aversion.
Elves are more open minded when it comes to necromancy, although only a select few are allowed to wield it, and only after decades of scrutiny.
A common means of scrying employed by necromancers involves 'borrowing' the eyes of dead creatures. Birds in particular.
