I've often wondered what synesthesia [where one sense (smell?) is perceived by another (sight?)] must be like.  For those of us that don't have it, it's really hard to imagine.  Like the philosopher Thomas Nagel's thought experiment: What it's like to be a bat, it's really impossible to know another being's subjective world, and if they have unusual senses, even trying to imagine it is difficult.  Synethesia is likely nothing like how Kimber perceives it; but then, how can we ever know, eh?
