So it's not all is paradise down on the range.  Older rancher taking little digs at Kimber Lee, and Socorro; she knows perfectly well that, in their culture, it's not at all uncommon for the woman not to take the man's name upon marriage, but Kimber Lee, not being native to the culture, is open for a jab.  But she seems to be safe from getting shot there…!  But…  well there's always a 'but'…
