Can you spot all the cameos in panel 2? ;-)
This is an example of what I call "The Headless Chicken School of Reporting". Basically they are afraid that if they don't have constant coverage of an "important" event the viewers will change the channel. Which they usually do anyway once they realize that the station has been reporting the same five minutes worth of info over and over again, but the other stations don't usually have anything the first station does, so it's a lot of wasted time to report information that they could have running as text across the bottom of the screen while they report other news that has happened and only interrupt when they actually have something newsworthy.
But no, the morons running the news will never do anything that resembles common sense.
