The Geminic Blue domain has been canceled. I don't know if I'll buy a domain again. Apparently I'm not smart enough to determine good companies from bad ones. Aside from finding out my pagebuilding program is complete crap, here's why.
I went looking on my own for a possible paid domain. One of the top ten domain sites I went to listed their #1 as Globat.com. Lots of space and features for very little money. Sounded great, so I went looking for reviews of the place. I could only find good reviews, mysteriously enough since now I can find plenty of bad reviews wherever I look. I can only guess I wasn't looking hard enough or in the right places.
Red flag one, my site worked fine at first, then I started getting complaints from my visitors of it constantly being down. There wasn't that much material on the site, Angelfire could have better uptime than what I was paying for.
Red flag two, I got an email from them stating that they were upgrading me to a $50 package of features, and if I didn't want them I had to click a link to opt out. That was when I typed "automatic upgrades" alongside the company's name, and I started to realized I walked right into a big old trap.
-If you want to cancel your account before 15 days of your anniversary date, you have to pay a cancellation fee of $150. -But you can't really cancel your account at 15 days or less, because they have an unannounced policy of automatically renewing your account a month beforehand.
After reading all the horror stories people were telling about this company, I decided on Monday (six days before they would supposedly automatically renew my account) that I would just cut my losses and try to cancel my account before any more damage was done. I went to their site and went to cancel it, and after I pressed the "Cancel My Account" button, it said I had to call a phone number that was open M-F 9-5PST. It was after 5PST when I found this out, so I figured I'd call when I got up in the morning.
When I woke up Tuesday afternoon, I found two e-mails from Globat. One was sent at 10am, stating that my account would be automatically renewed "on or before 30 days" to my anniversary date. The second one was sent less than two hours later, saying they had charged my credit card with $118 for a renewal.
I called their cancellation line, told them that they did not have permission to charge my credit card for this renewal, and that I wanted my account canceled. They told me that they canceled my account and voided the $118 charge, and gave me email confirmation.
Now I have to wait for my credit card statement this month and see if they actually did it. At this hour, the Lady Luck site still works, which isn't a good sign. =\
