This flashback sequence actually evolved from a couple strips that sort of got written out of the original script from when they left the alleyway. At one point in the script, the MC (Main Character, whose name I won't yet reveal) met the Doctor, from Doctor Who instead of good ol' Ben here. the panel from that version can be seen here: http://hikou-chan.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1svcz0 for those interested.
Also, for those who don't know what 'San' means, here's what Wikipedia has to say about the subject: San (さん?), sometimes pronounced han (はん?) in Kansai dialect, is the most common honorific and is a title of respect similar to "Mr.", "Miss", "Mrs.", or "Ms."
