Chapter 1: The Journey 4

Oh snap, someone just lost their hand. Many people have commented to me about how violent the opening to this series is, and the truth of the matter is this: it's not very violent at all.

I intentionally put some violence in the beginning to let people know how this story was going to play out. That is wasn't necessarily going to be "fun" action, but that when something happens to a character (like, I dunno - they lose a hand) you as a reader is going to feel it.

I'm usually of the mentality that violence should never be entertaining (if it's not fun to get punched in the face, then why should it be fun to watch someone else get punched in the face), but I don't see a problem with fun action. To me, action and violence are separate. You can have action with violence - but the reverse is not always true.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?
